Cultural Saturday in Aio

Saturday Markus, Ashley, Katie, Daniel, Jason and Kana, Heather and Kitakyushu JETs, Kristi, and I joined the Aio Sweet Potato Digging Event in Aio-cho, just south of Yamaguchi City. The weather was perfect and the sweet potatoes plenty.







Following the digging, we moved over to the beach and made traditional toys out of bamboo. We were all interested in these little pipes that you stick paper in the ends and then it makes a loud sound when it pops out. Many thanks to these older gentlemen for being patient in teaching us how to create our toys.
