Kyoto Day 1

It was raining in Osaka, so we decided to skip Osaka Castle and head to Kyoto.

After taking a few photos of the amazing Kyoto station, we headed two train stops south to Fushimi Inari Shrine. This was the one thing I wanted to see most in Kyoto. Prior to going, I thought that all the gates lead straight up to a shrine. I had no idea how many thousands there really were or for how far it weaved through the mountain. Despite getting lost coming down the mountain and the crap weather, it was my favorite site.

We happened to be in Kyoto during an early-spring flower/lantern festival through Higashiyama/Gion area. The narrow streets were lined with thousands of people, and all the trees and temples were lit with colorful lights. Because it was dark, few photos turned out, but it was beautiful.
